Events launched to support access to higher education

Aspire to HE and Walsall College have joined forces to host two exclusive events for adult learners to discover how they can return to education and get their degree.

The aim of the event is to raise awareness that ‘It’s never too late’ to return to education to achieve the qualifications needed to start those dream careers.

The first event will take place on Wednesday 30 June at 10am until 1.30pm The Hub, Walsall College. The second event, which will be a repeat of the first event, will take place on Saturday 3 July at 10am until 1.30pm at Wisemore Campus.

Attendees will learn all about how to access higher education as an adult learner and the support available that may have been a barrier in previously accessing higher education. Sessions include:

• How to get a degree at any age
• How to get to university if you have no GCSEs
• Financial support
• Preparing for university
• Brushing up on your digital skills
• Balancing your studies with childcare

Gemma Kay, Co-Director at Aspire to HE said: “This is a excellent opportunity for anyone over the age of nineteen looking to return to education and achieve their dream careers.

“There is so much support available that people may not be aware of, so we have worked closely with Walsall College to create these insightful events to ensure everyone has all the information they need about getting their degree no matter what stage they are at in life.

David Turner, Assistant Principal for Quality and Higher Education at Walsall College said: “Right now we know that many adults are re considering their career options, perhaps taking the initiative to pursue a different direction, to do something they’ve always wanted or maybe retrain in an industry that has recently caught their imagination.

“Higher Education courses can be closer to the job market and offer flexible options to study at levels 4 to 7. Adults are often surprised by the variety of courses available to study locally and in an affordable way.
